This weekend past was the WOMADelaide festival, aka best four days of the year. The best thing about WOMAD is not knowing what you're going to get, who you will see and what amazing new artists you will discover - but you are always guaranteed a brilliant time. This year it was filled with lampshade trees, paper birds, loukoumades, pretty flags, sunflower walls, lanyards, talking mushrooms, the hot man trifecta, a biblical cricket plague and a whole lot of booty-shaking. My favourites of the weekend were the rockabilly sounds of Imelda May, Ash Grunwald's wickedness representing Australia, the shimmying Juan De Marcos & The Afro-Cuban All Stars and my new love, frenchman Féfé. If you're in the mood for some fresh new tunes, be sure to check them out. With WOMAD over for another year and the withdrawal symptoms setting in (babaganoush cravings, aching legs and CD-purchasing-induced poverty), it is back to the real world. Until next year....
